To join LocalMesh in the Netherlands, you need an emergency radio device (LoRa). This is a small device that you connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Below you'll find an overview of compatible devices.

Note: Make sure you buy a device that supports the 868 MHz frequency (European frequency). American devices operate on 915 MHz and are not allowed in Europe.

Which device is best for beginners?
For absolute beginners, we recommend the LilyGo T-Deck Plus. It works out-of-the-box with a built-in screen and keyboard. If you understand computers and wifi setup, the Heltec V3 or V4 are excellent choices with more options. The V4 is newer, but the V3 is proven and easier to find.
What is the difference between MeshCore and Meshtastic?
MeshCore is a mesh network variant that works well in the Netherlands. Meshtastic is an international open source solution. LocalMesh focuses on MeshCore, but many devices work with both protocols.
Can I just buy any LoRa device?
No, watch out for the frequency! In Europe you use 868 MHz. American devices operate on 915 MHz and are not allowed here. Also check if the device supports MeshCore firmware.
How long does the battery last?
This depends on the device and usage. A portable device lasts an average of 2-5 days on one battery charge. Repeaters are usually connected to a fixed power supply or solar panel.
