Frequently Asked Questions About the Network

How far does the signal reach?
This is a mesh network – messages automatically hop via repeaters. You can communicate from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, or even further. As long as there are repeaters in between, distance is not a problem. Range depends on height and antenna (30-40 km possible from a high point).
Can I use the network if there are no repeaters near me?
Yes! You can communicate directly with other users within range. Range depends on height and antenna – from a few hundred meters at ground level to 30-40 km from a high point. But repeaters significantly increase reliability. Consider placing a repeater yourself!
How do I know if there is coverage in my area?
Soon you will be able to see this on the interactive map. For now you can ask in the community if there are others active in your region. You can also test yourself by purchasing a device and sending test messages.
What does it cost to place a repeater?
A repeater costs approximately from €50 one-time. Energy consumption is negligible (€1-2 per year). No subscriptions, no monthly costs. You help the network and are always connected yourself.
Can the network fail?
Individual repeaters can fail (for example due to power outages or defects), but the mesh network automatically heals itself by finding other routes. The more repeaters, the more robust the network.
