Privacy-friendly communication
MeshCore respects your privacy. End-to-end encryption for private messages, no tracking, no central servers storing your data.
Why privacy in communication matters
We share personal information daily via WhatsApp, email and social media. But who else has access to your messages? Providers, advertisers, governments? Most communication platforms collect metadata, scan messages for ads, or share data with third parties.
MeshCore is designed with privacy by design. No central servers storing your data. No commercial company scanning your messages. No tracking or profiling. Private messages are end-to-end encrypted โ only you and the recipient can read them.

Privacy threats in traditional communication
Why are traditional communication platforms a risk for privacy in the Netherlands?
Metadata collection
Even if messages are encrypted, providers collect metadata: who you talk to, when, how often, location data. This reveals much about your life.
Central servers
Messages via WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal go through central servers of companies. Technically these companies can have access to your data.
Commercial interests
Free platforms make money by selling data or showing ads. Your privacy is the product.
Government surveillance
Providers can be forced to give access to governments. Think of wiretapping, data requests, backdoors.
Data hacks
Large data centers with millions of accounts are attractive targets for hackers. If they get hacked, your data is exposed.
Platform censorship
Platforms can scan and censor messages, block accounts, or remove content without transparency.
How MeshCore protects your privacy
1. End-to-end encryption for private messages
Private messages between two users are end-to-end encrypted. Only you and the recipient have the keys. Nobody else can read โ not even repeaters forwarding the message.
2. No central servers
MeshCore has no servers storing messages. Messages go directly from device to device via the mesh network. Nothing is stored centrally.
3. No metadata collection
MeshCore doesn't collect metadata. There's no company tracking who you talk to, when, or where you are. The network is just a relay โ no surveillance.
4. Open-source and transparent
MeshCore is completely open-source. Anyone can inspect the code and verify there are no backdoors, tracking or spyware. Transparency is essential for trust.
5. Decentralized and censorship resistant
Because there's no central control in the Netherlands, nobody can censor or block the network. No platform owner deciding what you can say. Freedom of communication guaranteed.

Important nuances
To be fair: privacy on MeshCore has nuances you need to understand:
Group channels are NOT encrypted: Messages in public channels are readable for everyone in that channel. Use private messages for sensitive communication.
Location sharing is optional: You can share location data if you want, but this is not required. Decide yourself what you share.
Radio signals can be intercepted: Someone with technical knowledge can capture LoRa signals. But private messages are encrypted, so without the key they're unreadable.
Device security is your responsibility: If someone has physical access to your device, they can read messages. Secure your device with PIN or password.
