Get the most out of your LilyGo T-Deck Plus with MeshCore firmware
The LilyGo T-Deck Plus
The LilyGo T-Deck Plus is the most popular standalone MeshCore device. With built-in screen, keyboard and LoRa radio you don't need a smartphone – you can send and receive messages directly.
This guide covers everything you need to know: from first setup to advanced features like offline maps and remote administration.
T-Deck Plus Specifications
First Time Setup
1. Charge battery
Connect the included battery and fully charge the device via USB-C. The LED indicates charging status.
2. Flash MeshCore firmware
The T-Deck Plus often comes with Meshtastic firmware. Flash MeshCore via the MeshCore web flasher. Choose "LilyGo T-Deck Plus" and 868 MHz for Europe.
3. Choose preset
After flashing you'll be asked to choose a preset. Select EU/UK (Narrow) for the Netherlands and Europe.
4. Set name
Give your device a name so others can recognize you in the network. This can be done via the menu or companion app.
Activating DFU Mode
If you have trouble flashing or the device doesn't respond, you can use DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode:
- 1 Turn off the device
- 2 Hold the trackball (middle button) pressed
- 3 While holding the trackball, connect USB-C
- 4 Release the trackball when the screen shows "DFU Mode"
- 5 Open the web flasher and start the flash process
In DFU mode you can always flash firmware, even if the normal boot process doesn't work.
SD Card Setup
The T-Deck Plus supports microSD cards for storing offline maps and other data.
Formatting the card
Format the SD card as FAT32. Use a card of maximum 32GB for best compatibility.
Loading offline maps
Download map files in MBTiles format and place them in the root folder of the SD card. After inserting the card, restart the device to load the maps.
Download maps: OpenMapTiles
Audio Settings
The T-Deck Plus has a built-in speaker for notification sounds. You can adjust the volume via the menu:
- 1 Open the main menu
- 2 Go to Settings → Audio
- 3 Adjust the volume or turn off sound
When receiving messages you'll hear a notification sound. This is useful to know when new messages arrive.

T-Deck Troubleshooting
GPS doesn't get lock
The GPS needs open sky for a lock. Go outside and wait 2-5 minutes. First use may take longer. Also check if GPS is enabled in settings.
Screen stays black after startup
Try DFU mode and flash the firmware again. Also check if the battery is sufficiently charged.
Can't connect to other nodes
Check if you've selected the correct preset (EU/UK for Europe). Also check if there are other MeshCore nodes nearby.
SD card not recognized
Format the card as FAT32. Use a card of maximum 32GB. Try a different card if the problem persists.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the battery last?
With default settings (GPS on, screen regularly on) the 2000mAh battery lasts 1-2 days. With GPS off and screen dimmed you can achieve 3-4 days.
Can I use the T-Deck as a repeater?
Yes, but it's not ideal. The T-Deck is designed as a companion device. For repeaters, dedicated solar repeaters are better suited.
Does the T-Deck work without MeshCore registration?
Yes, all basic functions work without registration. Registration only unlocks extra features like deeper map zoom and remote admin.
