About LocalMesh

By citizens, for citizens in the Netherlands. An emergency radio network for when everything fails.

Who Are We?

LocalMesh is a Dutch citizen initiative that emerged from a simple thought: what if the internet goes down? What if mobile networks stop working during a disaster, outage, or other emergency in the Netherlands?

We believe that communication is a basic right, especially in times of need. That's why we help people in the Netherlands use the MeshCore network โ€“ an alternative communication network that works without internet, without mobile towers, and without power companies.

LocalMesh is 100% non-commercial, independent, and run by volunteers. We have no profit motive and are not sponsored by companies or governments.

Our Mission

Our goal is clear: help as many people as possible in the Netherlands join the MeshCore network, so that the Netherlands has a reliable emergency communication network that always keeps working. Whether there's a major power outage, internet failure, or natural disaster โ€“ MeshCore keeps connecting people.

How It Started

LocalMesh started as a response to the growing vulnerability of our digital infrastructure. Major outages at mobile providers, cyberattacks, and natural disasters increasingly show how dependent we are on systems that can fail.

A group of motivated citizens discovered MeshCore โ€“ a LoRa mesh network perfect for emergency communication. LocalMesh was founded to help people in the Netherlands use this network and raise awareness of this technology among more Dutch residents.

The MeshCore network in the Netherlands grows every day. Currently there are:
